The team at Shaw House is looking to recruit to a highly motivated and enthusiastic Visitor Services Officer as a maternity cover on a year fixed term contract or secondment. The successful candidate would display a variety of skills and need to be comfortable working in a committed team providing excellent customer service to Shaw House users on a daily basis.
Shaw House has a wide variety of customers - heritage visitors, those attending our many events (family activity days/fairs/outdoor cinema and theatre), meeting and conference hosts/delegates from public and private sector as well as guests at weddings and other ceremonies. The Visitor Services Officer needs to be equally adept at meeting the range of requirements from any of these groups whilst maintaining a professional manner.
Tasks are hugely varied and can include amongst others; setting up audio-visual equipment, moving furniture to meet booking requirements, delivering introductory talks on the House, laying out and clearing catering, organising events and simply meeting any requirement of the range of Shaw House users. The team also works alongside a number of contractors providing services to the House and you should be able to work and develop these relationships.
As well as practical tasks Visitor Services Officers have responsibilities to a certain level for various aspects of the operation so there will be an opportunity to develop and manage work in these areas. For this particular role we have identified the responsibilities of the café and catering events. Experience is not a prerequisite, but a willingness to lead in these areas and be involved is.
This is an exciting and challenging role because of the variety of work involved. To fulfill the requirements you must have a can-do attitude and a willingness to maintain and enhance the standards we have set.
Experience of working with Microsoft Office and Outlook is essential. Any further experience of working with audio-visual equipment would be an advantage.
We would be interested to hear from applicants who are able to work within our shift pattern which includes weekends, bank holidays and some evenings all equally shared between a team of five.
