Business Improvement and Development Manager

About Us:

The Public Realm team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of – and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As a Business Improvement Manager, you can make your own powerful contribution shaping the way the council’s Highways service operates in the future. We manage £50m of capital investment for an exciting range of projects every year. Our programme of scheme development and delivery ranges from resourcing and reporting to change management. You’ll do this in a number of ways. Developing and co-ordinating multiple public realm programmes, you’ll monitor a pipeline of future projects and ensure capital and revenue budgets are managed effectively. Maintaining efficient project plans and financial reporting will go hand in hand with the internal and external relationships you’ll develop in order to deliver your portfolio of projects.

This role requires innovation and continual improvement. And we’re looking for an ambitious individual to oversee our multidisciplinary team.

You’ll have experience managing complex project programmes within a relevant field. Comfortable working from home and central London, you’re able to deliver to budget while building strong relationships with large service supplier contracts. With a demonstrable collaborative capability, you’ll be confident overseeing a diverse and dynamic team to establish, review and embed effective change across the department.

With strong problem solving skills, you’ll have a customer driven, analytical approach to how you think. Your knowledge of how to apply project management techniques will feed your results focussed, strategic outlook on how we meet our targets. Personable and with excellent communication skills, your calm, independent approach to work influences those around you and supports internal and external objectives for change.

The Council and its partners are committed to achieving diverse shortlists for all vacancies at Band 4 or above to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. As part of this ambition, if you are from a Black, Asian and Multiple Ethnic backgrounds (B.A.ME) you can self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.
