Registered Nurse

Do you thrive on a challenge?

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team that supports its residents in a person centred way?

Do you want to progress your nursing career and work for a Local Authority that nurtures its staff and is committed to facilitating career progression?

Then come and work for West Berkshire Council as an RGN at Birchwood Care Home.

In return for your hard work, the Council will offer you training opportunities to fulfil your CPD requirements, regular supervision from the Senior Nurse and payment of your registration fees.

We will look to you to create a safe and supportive environment for residents with a range of physical and mental needs, whilst also relying on your professional judgement to make critical clinical decisions. You can expect a wide range of responsibilities, from developing tailored care plans to providing medicine safely and delivering excellence across everything you do. As a Registered Nurse (RGN), you’ll have the autonomy to do things the right way – and be truly valued and respected for what you do.

Birchwood benefits from both a clinical lead and a senior nurse to provide all of our RGN’s with a high level of supervision and support.

At Birchwood we have high levels of trained, supportive and committed dementia practitioners and residential care officers to support you across your role to ensure the highest level of care can be delivered.

You will need to have current NMC registration and a good knowledge of the most up-to-date clinical practices to join us as a Registered Nurse (RGN). Experience of producing well-developed care plans and detailed risk assessments is important too, as is an understanding of regulatory frameworks, including DoLs/MCA and Royal Pharmaceutical guidelines. Dedicated and compassionate, you’ll pride yourself on your person-centred, thoughtful approach to nursing.

We need someone with excellent leadership skills, with the ability to lead a shift and provide direction to the staff group on the Nursing Unit at Birchwood Care Home.

West Berkshire Council is looking to recruit Registered General Nurses for Birchwood Care Home which provides nursing care and care for frail elderly residents, some with dementia and challenging behaviour; we aim to offer a friendly, safe and secure environment.

We believe our residents have choices about their care, and we promote independence as much as possible. We aim to offer social and emotional support to our residents in order to meet their individual needs.

We are looking for Nurses to provide nursing care to residents in accordance with their assessed needs. We are looking for staff that can;

  • Maintain skills and keep up to date with clinical developments and best practice in areas relevant to care delivery in the home.
  • Undertaken training appropriate to the roll, as agreed with the Home Manager, and ensure learning is shared and transferred into practice.
  • Review the daily delivery of care, including pressure area prevention, nutrition and infection prevention and control procedures. Ensure high standards of care delivery are maintained.
  • To be responsible for the safe and appropriate management, administration and recording of medication, including controlled drugs and oxygen, in accordance with NMC requirements.
  • Act at all times within your own skills and competence in accordance with the NMC code of practice.

West Berkshire Council offer excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per annum rising to a maximum of 33 days, depending on how long you’ve worked for us and the grade of your job.

There are opportunities to pick up overtime within the home.
