Senior communications and engagement officer

Looking for a change? Want to get your teeth stuck into a number of high-profile communications and engagement projects? If you have large-scale infrastructure, regeneration or development scheme experience under your belt and are a multi-skilled communications and engagement professional, we want to hear from you!

About us:

Oxfordshire is a diverse and dynamic county with over 725,000 residents, 400,000 jobs and more than 30,000 businesses helping to generate £21.9 billion annually. The county is growing and changing with predictions of 85,000 new jobs and 100,000 new homes in the county between 2011 and 2031. This means there will be a greater demand on services and transport networks.

We’re helping to plan for the future. We are seeking to deliver £600 million of infrastructure programmes across Oxfordshire over the next four years that will help our residents, communities and economy to thrive. This will result in improved transport connectivity, more active travel choices and sustainable development that enhances our local environment, all while meeting ambitious targets for climate action.

About the role:

This role sits as part of a dedicated team within our wider top-class communications, marketing and engagement team to provide support for this range of priority programmes. Working with the communications and engagement manager, the senior communications and engagement officer will help to lead this team.

About you:

You will be responsible for supporting the communications and engagement manager (strategic programmes) in the development and coordination of communications and engagement strategies.

You will strategically advise on, deliver and evaluate effective and engaging activity to improve the understanding of local priorities and needs, using a range of channels including media and digital campaigns, internal communications, stakeholder engagement and public consultation and engagement.

You will also work closely with partners – including the district councils, the voluntary sector and user-led organisations – and with the wider communications, marketing and engagement team to ensure that activity is coordinated and complementary.

You thrive under pressure and can motivate and support others in meeting deadlines. Developing effective media and social media management strategies is part of your DNA.

Rewards and benefits:

We have a generous holiday allowance, which rises from 29 days to 32 days as you remain in employment with us, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday. You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9 per cent of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.

We are also proud of our strong flexible working culture and offer some of the best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.
