Public Safety Officer

Salary range: £42,795 - £45,834 p.a. inc.
Contract: Permanent
Hours of work: 36 hours per week
Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time
Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.
The Post
The post holder will work closely with event organisers, emergency services, licensing, planning & building control and other agencies.  You will advise management and venue owners including Wembley National Stadium and OVO Arena on how best to ensure the safety of spectators attending events; and provide public safety advice/guidance to Wembley Safety Advisory and the Borough Safety Advisory Groups.
An important element of the role will be to monitor and review the general safety certificate for Wembley Stadium and to assist with the preparation of special safety certificates for concerts and other non-sports events.  You will be required to carry out inspections of premises for events (that may take place on weekends, bank holidays and late into the evenings) to ensure that duty holders are complying with the conditions of safety certificates; and draft reports and recommendations.
You will also be required to provide specialist and expert public safety advice/guidance to licensees/applicants and the Licensing Team on premises licence applications/renewals.
The Person

We are looking for an experienced and competent officer to carry out inspections, surveys and investigations in Wembley National Stadium, OVO Arena and other sports grounds and licensed venues/events in Brent.  To succeed in this role, you must have a recognised qualification or proven experience in sports ground safety and/or health and safety.

The work will involve a flexible approach when dealing with proactive and reactive issues; and you will be responsible for managing a caseload of work within the above discipline.

You will have the opportunity to develop professionally and gain experience in a wide range of duties. Training will also be provided where necessary to ensure you maintain your competency and help you develop your professional role and move forward with your career.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Shamsul Islam, Senior Regulatory Service Manager on 020 8937 5259.

Closing date: 20 December 2022 (23:00)
