Senior Homelessness Officer

Horsham District Council are looking for a Senior Homelessness Officer to join our dynamic, solution focused housing service.  We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team with an aspiration to end rough sleeping in the Horsham District.

It’s an exciting time to join the Council’s Housing Team as we make progressive steps towards ending the need for anyone to sleep rough with a large partnership project delivering supported accommodation for single homeless households, proceed on with the newly created Council owned Affordable Housing Company delivering more affordable homes locally. The Housing Team is well respected at the Council with recent growth approved to enable us to continue to meet the needs of the district’s residents through the Cost-of-Living crisis.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team with an aspiration to achieve those aspiration set out in the Council’s Housing & Homeless Strategy.

You will be required to provide guidance and management support to the Homeless Team to ensure that the Council provides appropriate advice options and solutions to households who are homeless or facing homelessness and decisions are timely, meeting statutory timeframes.

You will be required to manage a caseload of complex homeless cases, undertake homeless reviews and address legal challenges.

You should demonstrate that you can lead in Safeguarding, SWEP, reviews, FOI’s, enquiries and complaints.

You will be required to keep up to date with current good practice regarding homelessness and housing need, possess an efficient, organised approach to work with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deliver quality work to predetermined deadlines with minimal supervision.

You should be an excellent communicator who can remain calm and positive when dealing with what can often be difficult and emotional issues but who achieves tangible results.

You will be required to participate in the out of hours homelessness rota (approx. one week in ten, for which you will receive additional payment).

We welcome applications from individuals that are currently working in a homeless or housing department, with knowledge and relevant experience in homeless law in accordance with the housing Act 1996 part VII (as amended by the Homeless Reduction Act 2017). Training will also be given.
