Assistant HR Adviser

Hertsmere is located in southern Hertfordshire – we are 13 miles from Central London and within the M25.  We adjoin Greater London with excellent road and rail links making London and the Home Counties easily accessible. The Council Offices are situated in Borehamwood within Zone 6 and with a direct rail link into London Kings Cross St. Pancras.  The area is an internationally renowned centre for film and television production, home to BBC Elstree and Elstree Studios (a council owned asset).

We are seeking a highly organised, team-focused individual to join our busy HR team.  You will support the HR Advisers in delivering a comprehensive HR service, so should have a good knowledge of HR procedures and legislation.  The role is interesting and diverse covering all aspects of HR and offers an excellent opportunity for those looking to develop a career in this field.

Ideally you should have previous experience within a similar role, however we will also accept applications from HR Administrators seeking to take the next step in their career.  You will ideally have gained a Certificate in Personnel Practice or hold CIPD membership, however this is not essential and training and development will be provided.

The role will require excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing as you will be involved in interviewing, composing correspondence, supporting disciplinary, grievance and performance cases, administering our staff awards schemes and supporting safeguarding and modern slavery among other areas of HR work.

Strong administration and excellent IT skills (particularly Word and Excel) are essential.  You must enjoy systems work and data analysis and have excellent attention to detail to enable you to produce and quality check complex data reports.  Your organisational skills will be one of your key strengths and you will have the ability to work on your own initiative.

The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week). The role is offered as part of the Council’s career grade scheme which means that training, development and the opportunity to undertake professional qualifications will be available for suitable candidates.  The level of pay at appointment will be based on skills and experience and accelerated pay awards will be available as the successful candidate achieves the full requirements of the role.
