Providing worthwhile activities for older adults – and essential respite for carers
In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. This includes meeting the specific needs of elderly and disabled residents. The borough’s dedicated day centre offers support, therapies and activities for older adults with complex needs such as dementia, Parkinson’s and mental illness. We help people to regain skills, reduce confusion and encourage independent social interaction.
You’ll join a supportive team that provides a wide range of person-centred care. This is a busy, active work environment where you will help to develop and deliver an activity programme, as well as providing personal care and assistance with eating and drinking. Acting as a key worker for a number of service users, you’ll work closely with families and carers to plan individual and group activities and monitor and review the services they receive. Although the role is based at the day centre, there are some opportunities for outreach work in the community.

Although we provide specialist dementia training, some experience in social care in a paid work setting is essential, and you should hold an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. A good understanding of person-centred approaches is important. Quick to build rapport with others, you’re able to deal calmly and sensitively with a wide range of people and situations, some of which can be challenging. Well-organised with basic IT skills, you’re equipped to help out with record-keeping, report writing and formatting risk assessments. Teamwork is the key to our success so you must be ready to work in cooperation with others.
