The role

It is a brilliant time to join the Law & Governance team which operates at the heart of Oxford City Council and is responsible for the democratic and political management arrangements of the Authority including the conduct of elections, corporate and Ombudsmen complaints and the provision of a full and varied range of legal services.

As a qualified lawyer you will have a good understanding of the workings of local government including its financial, legal and political context.

You will provide legal expertise in Contract and Procurement Law across the range of local government related agreements and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of high quality, solution focused legal work, to all clients within the council as well as its’ council owned companies.

You will have excellent legal research skills including using online resources and the ability to apply this to practical situations. Possessing good oral and written communication skills you will be adept at drafting concise, comprehensive contracts, letters and other formal legal documentation.

In addition you will possess commercial awareness, and a team working ethos that supports client care and service delivery.

You should also be organised, adaptable and willing to get involved in all areas of the Service’s work and want to play a role in helping the Service to develop and improve.
