We currently have three Building Surveyor roles, in three different council services:
1 x Building Surveyor - Corporate Property (Offices; Libraries; Sport centers; depots; cemeteries; etc)
1 x Building Surveyor - Children Schools and Families (Schools and educational establishments)
1 x Building Surveyor - Commercial Property (Leased and rental properties owned by the council as Landlord)
Reporting directly to the senior officers, you will lead in the process of receiving details of repairs, projects; compliance; etc required and assess the necessary actions you will need to take.
You will work both alone and as part of a team, ensuring that all works are ordered in accordance with the Council’s Contract Standing Orders and Financial Regulations and internal procedures. You will also prepare reports as required in respect of technical issues and recommend and deliver agreed solutions on time.
There is an expectation that you will embrace the ethos of a self-managed team. The self-managed team is expected to define priorities, set objectives, allocate work strands and manage the workload. The self-managed team will contribute towards sharing and developing knowledge within the team.
As a Building Surveyor (Corporate Property): you will be a qualified Building Surveying, educated to degree level or equivalent (recent graduates welcome) and have previous experience of working within a variety of operational and administrative commercial buildings, e.g. large and small scale offices; depots; community centers; libraries; sport centers; cemeteries; parks and open spaces; listed buildings; etc across 70 sites
The work will require you to use skills of building pathology to undertake repairs and resolve problems; alterations to buildings; undertake small and major projects. Assist in planning and identifying projects for our annual capital program. Where possible introduction of a sustainable approach to design and repair to help us reach our buildings Carbon neutral by 2030
You will need to have knowledge and experience of drafting your specifications; seeking quotations and tendering of works or managing specialist consultants/consultants; implementing the requirements of Health & Safety and associated legislation, in particular the Health and Safety at Work Act (H&SAWA), EEC directives and CDM regulations. Knowledge of building services would be an advantage.
It is key that you have excellent and effective communication skills as you will be required to liaise with people from all levels, including senior managers and officers across directorates, members of the public, contractors, consultants, and business tenants. You will be committed to delivery of exceptional customer care to building occupiers and will assist in maintaining close liaisons with building occupiers and commercial tenants and will continuously seek to improve the quality of services provided.
As a Building Surveyor – Education buildings: You will ensure Camden’s education property portfolio is maintained to high technical standards and that our buildings are safe, comfortable and serviceable, contributing to the council’s “Camden Plan” objectives. This is a key role for a building surveying technical professional (Career Practitioner).
This role is responsible for the delivery of Camden’s surveying role across built education assets including M&E services and may include management of works packages to the value of £5m.
The role is also responsible for the vetting and approval of requests from schools / colleagues for alterations to the assets and as such demands the requisite skill in building design and pathology and in-depth knowledge of Building Regulations, Health & Safety and compliance issues.
