This is an rare opportunity for someone with significant post qualification experience to play an vital role in Council’s planning policy team at an exciting time for the planning service. Tonbridge and Malling has recently completed a Regulation 18 consultation on its local plan and is currently taking forward key pieces of evidence to support policy-development. Therefore there is the opportunity to develop new and innovative approaches to shape the future direction of planning policy for the borough. The post-holder will play a leading role in the development of planning policies relating to the sustainable economic growth of our towns, settlements and rural areas through working corporately and with our consultant team. We are looking for someone who can bring their experience, ambition and passion for the right planning outcomes to the role. In addition to the tasks implicit in the monitoring and review of the Local Plan, you will have the opportunity to lead on professionally complex work as well as projects that have a corporate impact.
You will not only support the Planning Policy Manager in developing and delivering planning policy, but there will also be scope for you to deputise for them as your skills develop. The Council receives a broad variety of proposals across the Borough, with wide ranging opportunities for development, along with many high-level constraints providing interesting challenges for decision making.
You should possess enthusiasm, be well motivated and have excellent communication skills. You should possess a relevant first degree and should have completed post-graduation studies for qualification for membership of the RTPI (or a suitable equivalent level of education), have a sound experience of working within a busy local authority planning service and be keen to learn and able to adapt to changing demands and situations. A full driving licence is essential.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the plan making process and ideally have experience of working in a Planning Policy environment.
This is a 2-year fixed term post.
