About us
Camden is an ambitious, civic borough; full of participation, energy and community spirit focused on making sure Camden is a place where everyone can succeed, where nobody gets left behind and where everybody has a voice. Camden 2025 is our vision for the future of Camden and we need exceptional Design Managers to help us deliver on the ambitions contained within it.
Camden has long held design aspirations and believes that only through a sustainable, inclusive and engaging built environment can we fully achieve our Camden 2025 vision. Camden has exceptional architecture and place from previous centuries and continues to lead in design excellence through the delivery of celebrated and awarded development. We have an ambitious investment programme building high quality new homes, schools and spaces while our planning service is at the forefront of built environment thinking.
The role
The Urban Design Team at Camden is growing. We have created two Design Programme Manager positions to develop and deliver our service offer to internal and external clients. One will lead our offer to the local planning authority producing high quality planning and urban design documents and expertise to Development Management, Planning Policy, Placeshaping and Euston/HS2. The other will lead on our offer to services across the Supporting Communities Directorate and external stakeholders including Housing Delivery (Community Investment Programme), Regeneration, Transport, Green Spaces and Inclusive Economy.
As a manager you will lead by example to support and encourage diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking within the workplace and in the delivery of our services to create a truly inclusive directorate.
About you
We are looking for experienced design professionals who not only believe in our journey and approach but who have the passion and commitment to continue to move us forward in our ambition to be a place of innovation and impact for our citizens and communities. We are looking for a creative thinker and project/programme manager who can deliver corporate objectives through high quality services to our client services within the directorate and beyond.
You will have substantial experience in both the design and delivery of projects and experience of development management, pre-application negotiations, critiquing, and peer review. You will have exceptional influencing and judgement skills and programme management abilities. A background where you have closely and effectively worked with politicians (or equivalent) is desirable and you must have good political awareness. Overall, you will need to have the same core values and level of ambition as set out in Camden 2025 and Our Camden Plan.
