The Post

 Brent Council spends approximately £400m per year across its supplier base to support its various activities; from keeping the streets clean, to providing care and support for our most vulnerable to building and creating new affordable housing for residents in the heart of our communities.

Increasing investment in Brent sits at the very heart of our new procurement strategy, and through this, we will seek every opportunity to ensure that local businesses form part of the Council’s supply chain.

For this to continue, we are looking for dynamic commercial minded procurement professionals who are looking for their next step in making a difference as Assistant   Category Managers, who will  have a pivotal role to play in supporting much of what the Council is looking to do in Brent.

This role is looking to develop individuals into Category Managers providing them with exposure to  lead  and manage a multidisciplinary team, providing   r outstanding and strategic commercial advice delivering projects of significant value and importance  working with  the Capital Housing Programme and / or Facilities Management and Environmental Services  teams.

The role will also been seen by the council’s Directors, Members and Heads of Services acting as a key strategic adviser on complex procurement matters, managing procurement projects of high value, complexity and/or risk to the council.

The Person

We are looking for an Assistant Category Manager to lead the process of procurement for our key / large and complex projects and programmes for their directorate areas – Capital Housing programmes  and / or facilities management and environmental services.

To develop into a Category lead, it will be for you to provide expert technical information, advice and guidance on all aspects of the procurement process to internal customers and to deal effectively with third party suppliers as external customers of Brent’s processes and service delivery partners with support from the Category Manager

The right person will show they have the ability to support the Category Manager lead and deliver specific projects within a category to ensure working as team they have the ability to demonstrate they have their finger on the pulse of what is happening in the given market and how these developments may be deployed for our residents. 

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver within a local authority or similar large complex environment.

Given this, we require someone with a structured approach to their work deploying the tools and techniques of strategic sourcing to achieve business outcomes through sound market analysis, commercial acumen and strategy formulation, resulting in improved quality of services and/or financial savings – and, in all cases, value for money.
