Childrens Consultant Social Worker – Children Looked After

At Hertfordshire County Council, we believe that the children and young people in our care deserve the best and you’ll help to make that happen. Acting as a role model for excellent social work practice, you’ll play a part in developing a team that is skilled, supportive and highly motivated. At the same time, you’ll lead the way in ensuring children and young people can access everything the county has to offer to help them feel accepted, supported, safe, hopeful and loved.

Whilst you will have a small caseload of complex children to support, you’ll also play a leading role in service development and supervising the alternatively qualified members of the team. As part of a stable and supportive management team, you’ll help to deliver our strengths-based approach and ensure we learn from each other and the lived experiences of children and young people. We’ll look to you to apply theory and research to frontline practice. You’ll also be instrumental in increasing collaboration, consistency, capacity, and compassion, both within the team and in partnership with services such as mental health, education and the police. Join us and you can be sure you’re changing lives for the better – including your own.

A qualified and registered social worker, you’ll have significant frontline experience of working with children and young people facing complex issues. You will also have some supervisory experience and will be used to researching and sharing new developments in social work practice.  As you will be involved in care planning; assessments and reviews you’ll also need strong written and spoken communication skills.   Your energy, passion and persistence will be matched by sound decision-making that balances the wishes of young people with rigorous safeguarding.

In return we offer great training opportunities; an innovative working environment and a generous benefits package that includes relocation expenses of up to £6,000, a car lease scheme and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
