Clerk to Governing Body

Starting salary £23,620 - £24,496 FTE depending on experience
Part time – approximately 20 hours per month

Hatch Ride School is a one form entry primary school on the outskirts of Crowthorne and now part of the Corvus Learning Trust. We are a small, friendly governing body and support the school in developing the whole child socially, emotionally and academically.

This is a key role providing administrative and procedural advice to the Governing Body, reporting to the Chair of Governors.

This vital position ensures the effectiveness of the governing board by meeting the administrative and procedural requirements and enabling the board to have successful discussions.

Primarily the clerk is responsible for preparing agendas in consultation with the headteacher and the Chair of Governors; taking and writing up the minutes at Governors’ meetings, and distributing documentation and other information to the Governing Body (use of GVO desirable but training can be provided). The Clerk will also need to become familiar with the DfE Governance Handbook, and provide accurate advice to Governors as necessary.

There are usually 6 meetings of the Local Governing Body per year, currently these are held in the evening on a Thursday from 18.00 for 2 hours.  As the LGB returns to full strength capacity there will a further two separate committee meetings for an Educational Outcomes and Finance committee: these are held also on a Thursday evening and consist of 6 meetings per year per committee.

The successful candidate will also be expected to attend two termly briefing sessions held by the Local Authority which are held during the working day and also take advantage of other training sessions that may be offered.  The Clerk will be expected to use their own computer and work at home.   The Governing Body will consider applicants who wish to apply for the role as a job share and applicants who work as a Clerk in a number of schools.

Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential. The job requires someone who is a good communicator, who works well on their own using their own initiative and as part of a team.
