SENDIASS Caseworker

Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with a special educational need / disability (SEND)? Can you enable children, young people and their families to participate fully in decisions about the outcomes that they wish to achieve?

Halton SENDIASS are currently looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic caseworker. This is a great opportunity to work in a small, dedicated and highly regarded team of information, advice and support givers and to further develop your skills and knowledge in SEND education law.  You will have an up to date knowledge and understanding of SEND and its statutory procedures (including health and social care relating to SEND). You will be familiar with relevant legislation including The SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010.

This role requires a high level of competence, you must be able to work both individually and in a team and have experience in managing a demanding personal caseload.

You will be a key member of the team, supporting Halton SENDIASS in delivering a good quality statutory information advice and support service across the Borough.

You will empower children, young people with SEND and their parents/carers to make active and informed contributions to decisions made about their education, health or care, including through the process of developing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

 The successful candidate will

  • be approachable and non-judgemental with the ability to maintain impartiality and confidentiality.
  • have ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to deal with sensitive issues.
  • have an interest in the work of SENDIASS Information Advice and Support services. Experience of working in an educational environment, local government, voluntary organisation or other field relevant to special educational needs.
  • be educated to degree level or appropriate equivalent qualification. It is desirable that you have a qualification in Special Educational Needs for example IPSEA training up to, and including level 3 or are willing to work towards
  • have experience of working with children and young people with SEND, in an advice giving capacity.
  • have knowledge and understanding of current SEND legislation. It is desirable that you have had previous experience of providing SEND information, advice and support to adults, children and young people, including those with SEND or vulnerabilities.
  • have experience of communicating in a variety of ways, including delivery of presentations and training.
  • have an understanding of safeguarding
  • have an understanding of IT and administrative systems
  • have experience of working collaboratively with colleagues from a range of agencies
