Job Duties:

Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People (SfYP) is the primary provider of careers information, advice, and guidance, work related learning, work experience and youth work to young people across Hertfordshire. The Service provides a wide range of careers and work-related support, predominantly for young people aged 13-19 (up to 25 for Care experienced young people and where young people have a learning difficulty or disability) to make sure that the needs of young people are met, and they are supported to achieve their full potential.

You will deliver our traded services within schools and other educational settings, as well as statuary support for young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND). This will involve both one to one careers advice and group work to support the young people to develop their career management skills and make informed decisions at key transition points.

You will work with a caseload of young people who are not in education, employment or training, providing support, identifying and addressing any barriers that impact their ability to develop personally, and or access learning and work. You will support them in accessing appropriate programmes, developing clear plans of action and referring to specialist, and or statutory agencies when required.

You will need to evidence previous experience of working with young people with a range of needs and from diverse backgrounds.

For the qualified position you will also have a relevant qualification such as: Diploma in Careers Guidance parts 1 and 2; QCG and or Level 6 in Advice and Guidance and evidence of relevant continuing professional development alongside the ability to put learning into practice. 

For the Trainee position you will also have an appropriate prior learning (level 3 qualifications) that will enable you to undertake the QCF Level 6 Advice and Guidance qualification via an Apprenticeship. The training is delivered through a specialist training provider with support from SfYP to help you successfully gain the qualification within approx. 24months

We are seeking enthusiastic, proactive and resilient individuals, able to respond quickly to the evolving needs of young people and our service, with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively both verbally and in writing with young people, adults and other agencies.

You will be required to travel across the county so access to a vehicle is essential.
