Data Centre Technician

The starting salary for this role is £36,282 per annum for working 36 hours per week. The role is location based and the successful candidate will need to be onsite 5 days per week with some travel between sites within Surrey required.

Surrey County Council operates dedicated Tier3 data centres that support customers across a variety of business services. We are currently looking for a Data Centre Technician to join the Data Centre Team and play a key role in maintenance and installation work.

Our normal business hours are between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and each day you will be assigned to either the earlier or later shift. Though there is a requirement for some working outside of normal business hours, you will be entitled to 26 days' annual leave in addition to bank holidays. It is a role that requires participation in the out of hours support rota and a basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

About the role

As a Data Centre Technician, you will carry out maintenance and installation work that is diverse, sometimes unpredictable and non-routine, and requires creative application of a wide range of skills. You will support the services delivered through the data centres to optimise cost and manage risk.

In this role, you will need to maintain good, professional working relationships with stakeholders and be able to collaborate with customers across both public and private sector. You will also need to have a good understanding of industry best practices to help you develop more effective and efficient ways of working.

About the team

The Data Centre Team is a relatively small multi-disciplinary group, but we often work with customers and 3rd party engineers to deliver operational and project objectives as part of a larger team.

In such a critical environment, teamwork is essential, and we are focused on risk mitigation in everything we do. As a team, we act through careful planning and preparation.

Our culture is one which is committed to continuous learning and process improvement to deliver operational excellence. We integrate this into everything we do to build a culture of ownership, but we also manage to make the job fun and have a laugh.

About you

We are looking for someone who is an independent thinking self-starter with the ability to work to agreed objectives and reinforce decisions with relevant technical expertise and knowledge.

You will be an IT professional with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Able to maintain enthusiasm and commitment, you will have experience delivering results in the face of difficulties.

To be considered for interview, your application will evidence how you meet the criteria below:

  • Holds a relevant driving licence
  • Access to a suitable vehicle with a current MOT and business insurance
  • Previous experience working in a data centre environment
  • Demonstrable understanding of data centre M&E and physical security infrastructure
  • Demonstrable understanding of ISO 27001 and ITIL
  • Evidence of working as part of a team to deliver a range of customer deployments

We are also interested in finding out about any relevant transferable skills or experience and would encourage you to include these in your personal statement.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 03/04/2023 with interviews to follow.

A Basic DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) will be required for this role.

We look forward to receiving your application. Please click on the apply online button below to submit.

Benefits

From flexible working to job sharing (where possible) we are committed to providing a healthy work life balance. A laptop and mobile will be supplied if applicable to your role.
