About Us:
Are you able to establish positive, supportive relationships with children? Do you value education as a way to improve children’s life chances? Do you want to make a difference to the lives of children affected by childhood trauma?
The Mulberry Bush was founded more than seventy years ago, and we’re proud of our reputation for transforming the lives of all those affected by childhood trauma. Since 1948 we have been helping traumatised children and those around them through the creation of therapeutic environments within which children can build healthy relationships, discover the benefits of education and start to rebuild their lives.
Our belief is that we offer something special and we hope that you will want to become an integral part of our work. A career at the Mulberry Bush School will provide you with the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives and futures of children facing extreme challenges, to gain invaluable experience, to gain a qualification in therapeutic childcare, and to join a team of committed, passionate, caring individuals.
We are looking to recruit a number of Teaching Assistants to join our team – some vacancies are available immediately, and others have a September start. This is a role that will combine plenty of variety and new challenges with the security of being part of a highly professional, understanding team that will provide you with a high level of support and supervision.
Working under the direction of a class teacher and with the support of a Senior TA, you will provide a broad range of support to the children, both individually and in groups, as well as assist with the preparation of teaching resources.
You will have had experience of working with children, and it would be very helpful if some of this experience was in an early years or primary school setting. Of even greater importance are the personal qualities of resilience and creativity as well as the ability to think and adapt quickly to new situations.
It is vital that our children experience a diverse community with a range of role models and a rich cultural mix. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and communities, and we’d love you to join us on our journey.
We look for dedication and commitment and would prefer that you are able to give at least a 3-year commitment to working at the school, and in return you will find extensive support in the form of regular supervision, consultation, professional advice, training and a very supportive team. We will require you to undertake our Level 5 Foundation Degree in Therapeutic Work with Children and Young People (accredited by the University of the West of England), which is fully funded and supported by the school.
