Be at the heart of tackling the most crucial issue of our time – climate change

Worried about the looming threat of climate change, but not sure what you can do to help tackle it? Look no further. This is your chance to work directly on contributing to the council’s exciting new Green Neighbourhoods programme and bringing about a greener, more environmentally friendly borough for all to enjoy.

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The Post

The Council declared a Climate Emergency in July 2019, which included an overarching aim to: ‘do all reasonable in the council’s gift to aim for carbon neutrality for 2030’.

Since the climate emergency declaration, the council has developed an overarching Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy (2021-2030) to set out the pathway to achieving this aim. We have successfully delivered our first year delivery plan (2021-22) and the refreshed 2022-24 Delivery Plan was approved by Cabinet at its meeting in June 2022. A key facet of the new Delivery Plan was to develop and implement a number of innovative, transformative and exciting ‘Green Neighbourhood’ pilots to act as the focal point for the council’s plans for tackling the climate and ecological emergency over the next two years.

The Climate and Ecological Emergency agenda therefore a remains a key strategic priority for the council and we are delighted to now be recruiting for a hugely exciting role to join our friendly and ambitious team tasked with delivering this strategy and the new Green Neighbourhoods action plans.

The post holder will lead cross-cutting programme management and day-to-day delivery of varied workstreams relating to Green Infrastructure. The postholder will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on a host of projects, cutting across and joining-up initiatives relating to both Healthy Streets and our award-winning Green Spaces in particular.

Please have a look at the job description attached for the varied accountabilities and responsibilities that will be required for this role. The post holder has an incredible opportunity to be at the heart of shaping and delivering important aspects of the council’s transformative Climate and Ecological Emergency Agenda.

The Person

We are looking for a driven, organised, creative and resilient candidate with a passion for making Brent greener and environmentally sustainable. You will have a good understanding of the Climate and Ecological Emergency agenda and have demonstrable experience of delivering projects with excellent results, as well being adept at managing wide-ranging internal and external stakeholders.

Closing date: 11 April 2023 (23:00)
