This post is a career grade starting at JG5 and progressing to JG6 over a period of time, with more experience and excellent performance. Most of the work will be face to face with households and landlords and involve visits to properties/homes, there will be the ability to work from home on some occasions.
Do you enjoy working with people and making a difference to their lives?
We have an opportunity within our HomeChoice & Lettings Team for a Tenant & Landlord Officer. The postholder will assist the Lettings Team to support individuals and families who need help to access or sustain a private rented tenancy and to be a point of contact for their landlords. This involves face to face work with our more vulnerable service users, assisting them to find and sustain a tenancy, attending tenancy sign ups and carrying out regular property inspections. You will need a valid driving licence and your own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel.
Having empathy with the circumstances that lead to homelessness and being keen to help and support people is very important, as well as the ability to engage people and quickly build rapport with service users and landlords, so that you can set up tenancies, identify support needs and refer for additional support as necessary, and then be ready to intervene again where needed to prevent the tenancy being put at risk.
You will need excellent IT skills to ensure that all actions and outcomes are recorded using our housing system. Some knowledge of tenancy law, welfare benefits, debt and budgeting would be an advantage, but training will be provided to the right candidate.
Working for North Somerset Council also has the benefits of a generous pension scheme and holiday allowance, agile and flexible working conditions including hybrid working, an Employee Assistance Programme for staff health and wellbeing and access to schemes such as salary sacrifice.
This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
