HR Consultant (Schools)

The salary for this role ranges from £36,989 to £40,146 per annum based on a 36 hour week. This is a full-time role, although we will also consider requests for term-time and flexible working arrangements (with a pro-rated salary).

Hybrid Working

Whilst your official work base will be Woodhatch Place, the Council works in an agile way; you decide where you need to work at any given time, including from home. We trust our people to be accountable, focus on productivity, outcomes and collaboration, and will support you to work where you are most effective, whether remotely, in schools, or from the range of SCC offices.

About us

The Schools HR service offers professional HR support to schools across the local authority; as a traded service we are in an exciting period of growth, and we are looking for an experienced HR Consultant to join us. ​ We are a friendly and well-supported, commercially-minded team, and we come together regularly to collaborate on projects, share experiences and learn from each other, as well as to celebrate achievements. We collaborate closely with colleagues across Surrey's extensive education support network, supporting the Council's objectives for improved educational outcomes for Surrey children and ensuring that no one is left behind.

About the role

You'll be prepared to work in schools across the County, and potentially beyond, providing strategic employee relations casework support to school leaders and governors, and supporting with formal hearings, investigations and training. You'll have a good understanding of the range of school terms and conditions of employment, and strong research and writing abilities in order to improve and draft resources, policies, correspondence, briefings, and provide clear and accurate written HR advice for customers and colleagues.

You'll be proactive in your approach to managing customer relationships and complex and sensitive employment issues, and knowledgeable in the full range of employment topics including safeguarding, restructures and TUPE projects. Your focus on outcomes will ensure that cases are resolved swiftly and comply with legislation, policies and best practice. Your strong coaching style will give school leaders confidence in your support and the options available to them, and you'll have good personal resilience and decision-making ability to help you deal with difficult situations.
