Project Manager - Building Maintenance

About Us:

Hackney Council is looking for someone to manage a variety of projects that will benefit our borough. As Project Manager, you will be responsible for turning ideas into finished solutions. You will lead projects of varying sizes with a focus on Legal Disrepair Properties. This is an important part of our work to make Hackney a place for everyone and improve the standard of Homes within the borough.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Legal Disrepair Team managing a portfolio of legal disrepair cases, arbitration matters and assisting in preventing new claims by taking early intervention to properties at risk of litigation. You will need to prepare detailed formal reports which will be used at arbitration hearings and lead on mitigating the Council’s liability whilst delivering an excellent repairs service by robustly managing contractors. In addition, you will be working closely alongside solicitors in legal services to determine whether the Council is in breach of the Tenancy Agreement and Housing processes.

You will lead the delivery of a range of projects within the Housing Disrepair Team – at all stages, from inception to completion. Day to day, you will carry out site visits and meetings across Hackney and beyond. You will spend time planning and delivering projects - ensuring we operate within relevant statutory, legal and procurement frameworks. You will be managing budgets and will need to demonstrate a sound understanding of contract and financial management, as well as other technical issues we face.

To thrive in this role, you should have strong influencing skills and sound judgement. We need someone who can motivate people, including contractors, and encourage them to strive for excellence. This role would suit a project officer ready for career progression. Ideally, a project management qualification would be desirable.

You will be working in a high pressured environment and will need excellent organisational skills as well as a dynamic attitude to managing your cases.

It’s one of the most sought after areas to live in London with good schools, parks and local amenities, as well as great transport links and vibrant and diverse communities.
