Quantity Surveyor – Highways
Wokingham’s Highways and Transport Service are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Quantity Surveyor, to join our dynamic Highways team.
As the Highways Quantity Surveyor, you will produce fully costed, analytical estimates for a range of highways works undertaken by the Highways service area, working with other teams across the division, to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to the delivery of services.
You will be responsible for the execution of work, including stage work accomplished, and take a proactive approach to deliver better outcomes for the council, working in conjunction with the Contract Manager to ensure value for money on main contracts.

Key responsibilities include:
- To be responsible for delivering commercial and contract management of the contracts to maintain effective commercial control;
- To be responsible for the administration of the obligations of the Project Manager under the NEC3/4 Contract, including assessment of:-
- variations and compensation events
- To be responsible for maintaining effective cost verification;
- To be responsible for inputting contract level performance information into monthly MBR reports;
- To be responsible for participating and contributing in and contribute to monthly contract and programme performance reviews and other ad hoc reviews and supporting final cost estimate updates;
- To be responsible for providing day to day ad hoc contract and commercial advice to client team;
- To be responsible for providing commercial assessment of opportunities for project savings supporting the development of associated proposals / business case for approval;
- To be responsible for supporting the development of a collaborative culture within the IPT (Integrated Project Team) that encourages innovation, enhances functional capability, creates consistency of performance, maximises the benefits of knowledge sharing and embeds industry best practice across the organisation;
- To be responsible for review estimates (at all stages).
Candidate Requirements
Our ideal candidate will already work within a highways team and within local government.
- Relevant professional qualifications or proven equivalent expertise
- Detailed knowledge of valuation and measurement of highway works, including usage of applicable standard methods of measurement.
- Experience of estimating and/or quantity surveying in a highway’s environment.
- Familiar and good working use of core Microsoft applications including Teams, SharePoint, excel, PowerPoint, MS word and project
