Legal Officer

We are looking for a legal officer to assist both our property and highways and planning teams  to deal with an exciting and varied range of local authority work.

About our team

The Teams provide advice to the County Council, District Councils and to other external public bodies who engage our services. Our work includes: transactional sales; acquisitions; leases; landlord and tenant management work; legal research and advice for all areas; drafting and preparation of highways documents and orders; drafting planning documents; attendance at Inquiries and committees and creation of legal charges to secure debts owing to our clients. 

About the role

The Legal Officer will provide legal and administrative support and such work will include: on-line legal research; drafting feedback on such research; administering the creation and removal of legal charges; submitting search applications to Land Registry and to District Councils; registering transactions with the Land Registry, submitting on-line returns for stamp duty land tax; pre and post completion work on section 106 files; preparation of footpath orders; advice and assistance on highways and village green matters;  scanning and photocopying documents; and opening and closing files for fee earners.

About you

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good literacy, numeracy, communication skills, keyboard skills, an ability to work as part of a team and the ability to prioritise and work confidently and flexibly under pressure to deliver a high quality service to clients.  Some knowledge of land law, conveyancing practice, highways or planning is desirable.
