Planning Manager (Development Management)

The Role

The Development Manager role is a key part of the strategic function of the Planning Service overseeing a large team of professionals. You will be a Chartered Town Planner and responsible for managing the end-to-end process of development management. Overseeing preapplication engagement and inquiries, decision making, planning committee, monitoring sites, and successful S106 infrastructure delivery.

You will report directly to and work closely with the Head of Planning in delivering a high quality service which responds to the day to day challenges of town planning, and liaises with Members of the Council, Parish and Town Councils, and other organisations on behalf of the Development Management department.

You will be expected to ensure statutory Key Performance targets are met and reported on a regular basis, attending various committees as necessary. You must be able to physically carry out site inspections. 

 

People Responsibilities

We’re looking for a dynamic individual who has experience in setting clear targets and managing a team to high standards. You will be leading an ambitious, talented and hardworking multi-disciplinary team and will enjoy engaging in a challenging but rewarding workload.

You will be responsible for planning enforcement across the borough overseeing a team of planning investigation officers and the planning appeals process. The department includes responsibility for conservation, urban design, trees, and the technical team of validation officers

The successful candidate will have a collaborative, positive and proactive approach to planning; a clear and effective approach to people and project management and a desire to get things done
