Project Manager – Leisure

The Role

We are recruiting two Project Managers to lead on a range of projects as part of the council’s Leisure Capital Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Leisure Directorate, Policy and Programmes team. The role will be responsible for delivering a portfolio of medium to large-scale construction projects informed by extensive consultation with internal stakeholders, residents and businesses from all sections of Southwark’s diverse communities.

About Southwark

We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark’s residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities.  Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.

About You

You will have a keen interest in parks, play and leisure provision, and be able to champion the broad benefits that access to good quality open spaces and recreational facilities offers to local communities.

You will have proven project management experience including the successful delivery of construction projects of varying sizes and budgets. You will be capable of managing teams of specialist consultants and contractors, and be skilled in budget management.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a passion for working with stakeholders and the ability to produce complex reports and presentations to a wide range of audiences.

Recruitment timetable

Interviews: Week commencing 9 October 2023.
