Service Accountant - Place Directorate

North Somerset Council is an exciting and rewarding place to work. Our services matter to people and they are at the heart of the local community. We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join North Somerset Council as a Service Accountant supporting the Place Directorate.

About the role

The Place Directorate includes a diverse and broad range of services, our core services delivered to our residents of North Somerset include Waste & Recycling, Highways & Parking, Parks and Open Spaces, Leisure & Community Services and Transport.  Alongside our core operational services, there are lots of upcoming projects happening on the events side and many other interesting placemaking initiatives. Therefore, it is a very exciting time to join the Place Finance Team, we are looking for an enthusiastic Service Accountant who would like to get involved.

The successful candidate will be able to work from home but may be required to work in the office on an irregular basis so will need to be within a commuting distance.

About you

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a range of financial monitoring, support and advice. They should be equally comfortable with carrying out detailed analysis as they are working in partnership with front line service managers to understand cost drivers and business needs and processes.

Other key skills that will be necessary for success are the ability to adapt to changing environments and to continually seek more efficient ways of working. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate excellent presentation and communications skills and an aptitude to positively embrace and influence change.

Whilst there is a requirement to possess a recognised accountancy qualification, we will consider applicants with extensive experience who have already completed part of their qualification.

The starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
