Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer to join our team at Bracknell Forest Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA); as the LLFA we have the responsibility in accordance with the Flood Water Management Act (FWMA) 2010 of managing flooding from ordinary watercourses, surface water and groundwater. We do this in partnership with other Risk Management Authorities and the Local Planning Authority.
We act as statutory planning consultees for surface water drainage on all major and minor planning applications (over 200 per year) and provide pre-application service to support the Local Planning Authority and advice to other decision makers.
The role also offers opportunity to develop your experience and capability in other duties under the FWMA 2010 including flood management asset maintenance, updates to flood management plans and identifying and developing flood alleviation schemes.

You will be supported to carry out the following LLFA duties & responsibilities:
- Support the Local Planning Authority in ensuring the delivery of high-quality SuDS schemes that meet the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework through providing specialist advice, working closely with, and supporting developers, consultants, engineers.
- Provide a pre-application advice service for developers to influence the development of effective drainage strategies within new developments.
- Enforcement of the Land Drainage Act and granting Ordinary Watercourse Land Drainage Act 1991.
- Provide technical support as required for the Council's capital work programme.
- Opportunity to develop experience and capability in other LLFA duties if desired.

What we're looking for
Great at prioritising and self-motivated individual, who is creative, innovative, and comfortable working to deadlines. Good communication skills are vital, as are the interpersonal skills it takes to work as part of a team and liaise with a wide range of professionals.
To succeed, you’ll need a degree in an appropriate discipline, knowledge of the Floods and Water Management Act, the Land Drainage Act and sustainable drainage design. Confident in your ability to apply current government policies and design standards. You’re also adept at analysing information and producing coherent reports and recommendations on flood risk assessments and drainage strategies.
