More about this employerHead of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer
Looking for ‘Satisfaction’ from your job? Well ‘Wild Horses’ shouldn’t stop you from applying for this role. Joking aside, Dartford Borough Council is an exciting place to work. We are enormously proud of our history and heritage (if you hadn’t guessed by now, Dartford was the birthplace of the Rolling Stones, amongst other things), and we work hard to make the Borough a place where our residents live good lives in strong communities. We are an authority who punches above our weight in terms of the ambitions we realise.
In recent years, we have been working to drive new investment, secure new homes, and advance the regeneration of our town centre through partnership, sound financial management, and strategic planning.
The Council has a vision to make Dartford a place of quality and choice, by focusing on community, sustainability, and a prosperous economy. We have delivered a great deal, becoming a great place to live and to invest, yet there is so much more that we want to do for our Borough and our people.
As Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer working alongside Members and Directors, you will have a significant part to play in the success of our Borough.
As the Council’s principal legal advisor, you will be critical to the success of our major regeneration schemes and housing ambitions. This is your opportunity to use your passion, especially for governance, planning law and data protection legislation to help shape these schemes to ensure the best outcomes for Dartford residents. We’ll not constrain your passion for doing things differently as there’s an appetite in the Council for both innovation and collaboration. You will make a direct contribution with your own case load, as well as leading both legal and democratic services.
You will also be the Council’s Monitoring Officer; promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct, dealing with allegations of misconduct by Borough and Parish Councillors and keeping an overview of the operation of the Constitution to facilitate how the Council works.
We will look to you to embody and champion our values and provide the legal expertise and corporate contribution that helps us deliver our vision for our communities.
If you are excited by how you can help us achieve our vision for Dartford, then it’s time to start a conversation.
To find out more about how you will fit in and the contribution you can make, contact Sarah Martin, Chief Officer & Director of Corporate Services on 01322 343402 / Sarah.Martin@dartford.gov.uk
