Project Manager - Major Works

About the Role

Be part of an exciting multi-million-pound infrastructure programme, that will transform Liverpool’s highway.  Take full control of the project lifecycle from procurement to delivery.

Liverpool City Council has embarked on a major improvement programme that involves all parts of the organisation.  Transport & Highways is especially focussed on delivering a range of improvements across the whole directorate.  It has recently completed a service review which has identified the need for a team of experienced and highly effective project managers to deliver an extensive suite of major projects covering all elements of the highway infrastructure.

As part of the team you will lead on your own projects, having full managerial control from inception through to delivery.  This will involve regular site visits to ensure the works are progressing to plan and contactors are fulfilling their contractual commitments.  You will also have line management responsibility for a works supervisor, who will assist you in the delivery of your programme.

You will report to the Major Projects Team Leader.  You will be a self-starter with ambition and high expectations of yourself and those you work with.

This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation on an improvement journey that will provide the opportunity to play a key part in its delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Management of the procurement and tendering process, including selection of the successful bidder
  • Interface with other council teams, the general public and elected members
  • Interface to senior management through attendance at meeting and the provision of progress and other reports
  • Undertake design reviews
  • Contribute to the highway asset plan

If you would like to talk to a member of the team about the role or have an informal discussion, please contact Dorothy Joyce, Programme Manager via email dorothy.joyce@liverpool.gov.uk or 07925 358 450.

Please note that in accordance with the Council’s policy, employees who are in a formal redeployment situation will be considered in the first instance for all vacancies.
