Planning Officer

The Role

You will be a key member of the team with a focus on all aspects of development management and the determination of all planning applications, including but not limited to householder applications, single dwellings, small housing developments, hydrocarbons and EIA development.

You will support the Head of the Planning and Building Services in the review of the development plan (and ongoing legislative and procedural improvements), and develop the work of the Historic Buildings Committee.

The Person

Ideally you will have a wide range of development management experience covering all aspects of development management functions. You must have experience in preparing committee reports and presenting to committees. You will assist in providing a high quality, customer-focused planning service delivering timely and quality decisions by acting as or supervising other case officers in the processing of pre-application enquiries and more complex planning applications.

With good communication and interpersonal skills, you will be well-organised, proactive and have a flexible approach.

Core Requirements

  • At least three years post-qualification experience in Planning / Development Management.
  • Degree in Planning and Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or equivalent.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to produce reports for senior management.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with service users and dealing with members of the public.
  • Solid project management experience and able to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Valid manual driving license.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years
  • Starting Salary £39,944 to £46,057 (depending on qualifications and experience).
  • 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.

A small, friendly department in Stanley, Planning and Building Services delivers statutory planning and building control functions, provides statutory environmental functions, co-ordinates the delivery, monitoring and review of the Biodiversity Framework and Waste Management Action Plan, administers grant schemes and advances environmental good practice and sustainable use of natural resources within the Falkland Islands.
