Role Purpose

Our HousingAdvice Team is a busy, thriving team who are constantly working towardsenforcing tenancy rights and improving conditions in the private rented sector.Working with various statutory and non-statutory organizations signed up toTower Hamlets Private Renters Charter we provide advice, information andassistance on housing issues within the Borough. We’re looking to appoint a Housing Debt & Money Advisor to this teamto provide debt and money advice to a range of customers who have a tenancy ora mortgage. The Advisor will also help customers to financially prepare for andmaintain a tenancy– this advice will range from budgeting to providing guidanceon debt and money management. You will bepart of a proactive, knowledgeable and experienced team of housingprofessionals offering advice and assistance to residents in private rentedaccommodation and borrowers to prevent or relief homelessness. You willengage the customer to determine the underlying reasons for arrears, assesstheir income and ensure income is maximised and all applicable benefitsaccessed and provide innovative solutions to resolve customer debt matters toprevent homelessness. Your workwill be essential to ensuring the council meets its new duties under theHomelessness Reduction Act 2017. You will be a specialist money and debt Adviser with a thoroughknowledge of welfare and other benefits and an understanding of the implicationsof Welfare Reform. You will have a good knowledge of organizations that providesupport, including grants and previous experience of negotiating with landlordsand lenders to prevent eviction. Goodinfluencing, mediation, customer care and effective communication andinvestigative skills both face to face and on the telephone to ensure positiveoutcome for the customer are essential for this role. Also the ability to workunder pressure to meet successful outcomes, manage a busy workload working bothsolely and as a member of the team and the ability to conduct housing needsassessments and gain required information from applicants to do so areessential skills for the role.
