As Scrutiny & Committee Support Officer you will have responsibility for providing support to committees, sub-committees, advisory groups and associated bodies to a high standard.
This involves the servicing of committees and advisory groups and their meetings both formal and informal (some of which are held outside normal working office hours); prompt and effective preparation and publication of agendas and minutes using the modern.gov committee management system; providing appropriate support to elected Councillors; preparation of reports; and undertaking other duties from time to time, which may involve working across all sections of the Council. You will also have the opportunity to participate in election work and other administrative duties in the department as a whole.
To succeed as Scrutiny & Committee Support Officer, you will be methodical, accurate, confident, computer/ keyboard literate and have good English language skills. An efficient organised approach to work with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deliver quality work to predetermined deadlines is also essential and you should be aware of the need to attend meetings in the evenings.
Ideally, you will have reasonable knowledge of the law and practice relating to local authority meetings and a good practical grasp of the ways in which a Council works.
