Set in the South Atlantic Ocean, the Falkland Islands benefits from unique wildlife, low crime rates, the absence of traffic jams, a varied social calendar and the close proximity of South America as a holiday destination.
The Falkland Islands are a unique and diverse place to live and work. The economy is thriving and further development, in particular oil exploration, is bringing many significant challenges. This is a great opportunity to use your skills and knowledge to help shape the future development of the Islands for many years to come.
The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced building control surveyor to join our team as the Building Advisor.
You will take responsibility for a challenging and varied workload, a key part of which would be to deliver FIG’s building control functions, including improvements to both the service and the legislative framework. You will also get involved in the other aspects of our work, including land use planning, heritage, statutory environmental functions, and advancing environmental good practice, including the sustainable use of natural resources.
You will have a recognised professional building qualification and be a chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and/or The Chartered Association of Building Engineers (or equivalent). A full valid driving licence is essential.
You will also have at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience and good communication skills. Experience of working in a rural or small community and the ability to be proactive in seeking alternative methods to improve systems would be an advantage.
The appointment will be fixed term for up to four years (with an option to extend by mutual agreement). Salary ranges between £36,084 and £44,472 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include a relocation grant, eligibility for up to a 25% gratuity upon satisfactory completion of the contract and a yearly return flight package to the country of recruitment.
