ABOUT THE ROLE
Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise made to the people of Southwark and strive to reflect the priorities of our residents. We want to ensure that they can achieve their full potential.
We also have an ambition to become the Legal disrepair service of choice, being respected in the marketplace and known for our pragmatic approach, excellent service and outstanding results.
In this instrumental role, we will look to you to deliver professional surveys and prepare schedules and tender reports with effective financial appraisals. You will be our resident expert in the use of devices, aids and instruments for assessing and diagnosing building failures. You will challenge recommendations, deliver training and, where necessary, represent the Council in court.
You will also be responsible for initiatives that reduce our dependency on external advisors. You will take the lead in providing specialist advice around the selection, appointment, retention and fees for specialist contractors. All the while, you will manage and monitor service and maintenance contracts to ensure compliance.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be a qualified surveyor with experience of repairs and maintenance and a working knowledge of contract administration and Housing Disrepair protocol.
You will have the gravitas and expertise to act as Southwark’s voice on landlord/tenant matters, leaseholder consultation requirements and contract dispute and resolution. In addition to this, you will also have excellent verbal and written skills that will allow you to present and argue your findings in an articulate, succinct and confident manner.
Southwark has a rich and proud history, a strong sense of community and a great ability to transform and renew. It is a vibrant and enticing place to live, work and visit. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking.
In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family-friendly policies including flexible working, home working, a local government pension scheme plus many other staff benefits.
We are a friendly, supportive team that strives for excellence, values its members and takes pride in its reputation for ‘working hard’.
We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible and we just ask that you complete our online application form. You are also welcome to attach your CV to further support your application.
