Job Description:

The Government Economic Service is the professional body for economists in the UK civil service. Since its foundation in 1964, GES economists have been involved in decision making across government. For government, economics is about decision-making based on analysis and evidence, in order to make meaningful change to the lives of UK citizens.

The Government Economic Service Degree Apprenticeship (GES-DAP) offers you a unique opportunity to work in a central government department or agency on some of the most important social, environmental and economic issues our country faces – whilst studying a degree in economics provided by the University of Kent.

Once successfully complete, you will have a wide range of experience and skills that you have developed throughout the apprenticeship, an economics degree, and the guaranteed offer of a permanent job in the GES.Applicants should demonstrate a passion for making change, but we don’t expect you to have your whole life figured out. Many of you won’t know where you want your career to go, which is why the GES-DAP is designed to help you figure that out. We don’t expect you to know everything about economics, that is what we are here to help with.

You'll be working in a team of economists and other analysts, who will be able to provide you with the advice and support to be able to do this, alongside your manager. Many government departments also offer a buddy scheme to make our economists feel well supported and encouraged.

Job Specification:

With continuous support you’ll prepare vital briefings for ministers or the public, advise policy options, and ensure high quality use of economic statistics.
