Would you like to be part of a dynamic and rewarding service working with children and young people with additional needs in North Somerset?
The Disabled Children’s team is looking to recruit 10 enthusiastic and motivated Buddies to be part of a small team providing support for children and young people aged 8 to 18, often on a 1-1 basis. All this work is outside of school hours and can be either a flexible few hours a month, or regular weekly hours.
The vacancies are to support the running of the Saturday club and Wednesday evening youth club, which are held at The Firs Resource Centre, Weston-Super-Mare. We are also recruiting Buddies to support children and young people with additional needs to access community clubs and activities, e.g. Scouts, drama, sport clubs. Areas we are particularly looking to recruit to are Long Ashton, Nailsea, Portishead and Weston. Other work is during school holidays; supporting specialist and community-based activity days across North Somerset or supporting young people with independent living skills.
We have strong links with colleagues across a range of teams including social care, children’s centres, health and education. The post holders will assist in delivering activities to children and young people with a wide range of needs. You will work closely with the Day care Development team and will be required to comply with standards set by Ofsted. Good communication skills, flexibility and being a team player are essential for this post.
This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
