Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council pride themselves on their commitment to their people – striving to ensure that each and every employee feels valued and happy in their work.
We are looking to appoint a manager to run the Welwyn Garden City Estate Management Scheme.
Welwyn Garden City was founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1920, with an aim to combine energetic town life with the beauty and delight of the countryside. Its layout and design followed very precise architectural and landscape rules. The ideas that Ebenezer Howard proposed and then built are internationally renowned and have influenced town planning practices around the world. We are rightly proud of this history and want to protect and enhance the town as it approaches its centenary year in 2020.
The estate management scheme does this by controlling the changes that people can make to their houses and gardens. The successful candidate will finalise a design guide to help residents understand what they can and can’t do to their property. You will then lead the scheme by providing pre-application advice and determining applications, seek to resolve breaches through negotiation where they do occur, take enforcement action where necessary and promote the merits of the scheme to residents and others.
The council have developed a ‘One Team’ approach to working and this relies on each and every person working collaboratively to deliver shared goals. To be a positive influence on this environment, you’ll need to be able to support others and be a genuine team player.
What the council is really looking for is someone with a positive approach to finding solutions and a commitment to delivering outstanding results. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
More information about the EMS can be found at www.welhat.gov.uk/EMS.
Closing date for applications is 27 January 2019.
Assessments and Interviews will be held on 6 February 2019
