Are you a Civil Engineer with experience in managing a range of high-profile construction contracts? Would you like to work in a thriving economy, embarking on a period of increased development and a challenging portfolio of major Government infrastructure projects? If so, come and use your skills and knowledge to help the Falkland Islands Government deliver its ambitious capital works programme.

The Role

The Contracts Engineer is required oversee all capital works and other assigned projects within the Design and Contracts Section of the Public Works Department and assist the Director of Public Works with continuous improvement initiatives and the provision of management systems, processes and structures in line with corporate policies.

Recent developments in relation to oil discovery are likely to result in accelerated programmes in providing support infrastructure. including housing and related estate services, offices and roads.

The postholder will be required to manage contracted works in the Falkland Islands, leading the management of Government-contracted projects, delivered in a variety of ways including partnering.

The Person

Applicants should hold a recognised civil-engineering degree and have a minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in a similar post, preferably including project development and CAD experience. 

In addition applicants must have contractual awareness and a good knowledge of contract forms including NEC, FIDIC and JCT, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and must hold a valid driving licence.

The Package

  • Up to 4 Years Initial Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
  • Salary Range £40-54k, starting salaries will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home.
  • Government Housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you settle in.
