Horsham District Council are looking for a Building Control Team Manager to manage one of the Building Control Area Teams to achieve service delivery objectives and performance requirements. Known as Sussex Building Control, the local LABC team is the award winning provider of choice for all sorts of town and rural projects across Horsham District and for Crawley Borough Council. We are now offering an exciting opportunity to join our team building on your high profile, in depth experience in a refreshingly flexible working environment.
As Team Manager you will supervise the administration, technical interpretation and enforcement of Building Regulations in accordance with statutory legislation and the department’s Quality Management System and allocate tasks and resources to other team members as appropriate. You will also deputise for the Building Control Manager when required.
To make the most of this role – and the fantastic opportunities for continuous development and learning - you should have full professional qualification to RICS, CABE or equivalent standard, plus at least three years’ post qualification experience. This will include advanced knowledge of the interpretation and enforcement of Building Regulations, together with the ability to deal with dangerous structures and demolition works.
You’re also able to communicate well with people from all backgrounds, at all levels, be they the public, commercial partners or professional bodies. You have strong powers of initiative and problem solving, plus good organisational and time management skills, and a customer-focused approach to service provision.
To succeed as Team Manager you will be able to demonstrate leadership and management capabilities with evidence of working at a supervisory levels within a Building Control department. A knowledge of local authority roles and responsibilities will be desirable.
