Senior Planning Officer (Development Management)

Senior Planning Officers x 2 (Development Management) – full time or part time

About Us
Hertsmere, located within southern Hertfordshire and only 12 miles from Central London, benefits from a combination of unique economic opportunities alongside a diverse range of towns and villages, with an extensive area of green belt.  As such the borough provides an exciting opportunity to experience all aspects of planning.

Hertsmere is in the process of preparing a positive vision for growth within the borough through our new Local Plan. We’re also working to provide a Joint Strategic Plan for the area and striving to deliver a quality, focused Development Management service which meets the needs of existing and future residents.

Our own offices benefit from being close to both the A1(M) and M25 whilst Elstree and Borehamwood Station lies within Zone 6 and provides a direct rail link to London St. Pancras.

About the role
You will have shared responsibility for all aspects of development management processes inclusive of having your own caseload often dealing with more complex planning issues including pre-application and appeal work as required.  You will also be expected to assist and guide more junior members of the team as well as provide support to management staff.

About you
We want to show our residents and businesses that planners, with a positive focus on quality and infrastructure, can deliver change in a way that makes their lives better.  To do so, we’re looking for a talented individual with drive, ambition and relevant expertise to deliver an excellent service, alongside a true desire to shape and improve the borough.

You will have a good knowledge of planning and related legislation.  You will be a strong team player who can contribute positively to the team and be able to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in making recommendations on a wide range of planning matters.

You are capable of developing good working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the need to respond sensitively to the needs of the community and to deliver a service around the needs of our customers.

What we can do for you
We want you to improve and develop with us so we intend to support you as necessary through regular 1-2-1s, team meetings as well as via our appraisal reviews where we can identify relevant training opportunities.

Amongst several other benefits we allow for 26 – 31 days annual leave (depending on the length of Local Government Service), local government pension scheme, flexible working hours, free car parking and free use of leisure facilities within the Borough.
