About the Role

This is a ‘front-facing’ operational role where you will be expected to be the first point of contact for Managers and staff across the Council for advice on employment related matters and will be expected to have good organisational skills as well as being able to balance competing workloads and operate in a busy environment. Local schools opt to buy our services and you will be expected to work as a key partner to assist them to meet their objectives as part of the role. You will be expected to travel within the Borough to attend meetings from time-to-time, and there may be occasional travel outside of the Borough.

About you

Reading Borough Council is looking for an Employment Services Officer who can provide practical, professional and timely HR support to Managers, staff and the local schools that buy our HR Service. You will work as a member of a small and experienced unit providing a range of related services, from issuing contracts of employment through to administering employment terms and conditions.

The person we are looking for will:

  • Be able to understand and work with a range of policies and procedures.
  • Have a good eye for detail, and will be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with a range of people both within and outside of the team.
  • An ability to communicate effectively is important and good IT skills will be an advantage.
  • Good customer care skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
