Barnsley is changing and with a recently adopted Local Plan aimed at preserving what is special about the borough whilst also providing significant economic and housing growth opportunities, now is a great time to be joining our forward-thinking and dynamic Planning & Building Control Service.  The Local Plan identifies a number of large-scale urban extensions, the likes of which have not been seen in the borough for generations.  The borough also sits at the heart of Transport for the North’s Southern Pennines Corridor where a number of major transport infrastructure projects are anticipated, including HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and potential strategic highway improvements.  In readiness for this, we are restructuring the service to focus on maximising these opportunities to create fantastic, sustainable and resilient places which we will all be proud to have played our part in delivering.

With significant national infrastructure projects on the horizon, now is a great time to join a Local Authority with a growth agenda that is willing to support three ambitious and dedicated apprentices in gaining degrees in Civil Engineering.

A degree apprenticeship is therefore a great option if you want to study to improve your career prospects whilst progressing professionally, as the programme is flexible will complement the tasks you are responsible for at work.
