SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER

Fixed term appointment for up to two years with the possibility of permanency

Starting Salary £33,799 rising to £35,934 per annum

with possibility of a market supplement for the right candidate

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to take the next step in progressing your legal career with an ambitious and forward thinking Council? We are taking forward a number of major projects in the fields of housing and regeneration and developing a more commercial approach corporately.  Along with a refocus on innovative front line services, Newark and Sherwood is a small Council with big aspirations.

Are you up for the challenge?   A vacancy has arisen for a suitably experienced and qualified individual to deliver effective and efficient Legal Services to the Council and other organisations as required. As a qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate, barrister, trainee solicitor about to qualify, or a qualified Legal Executive - you will have a proven track record of managing a full and substantial workload of matters that are both complex and diverse in accordance with Client requirements. 

With excellent communication skills (both written and oral) you will be an excellent influencer and negotiator with effective advocacy skills. You will be adept at negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders.  Able to assimilate and analyse complex documents and/or  situations and make decisions  which lead to positive outcomes you will be sensitive and responsive to the needs of customers, elected members and employees.  Able to work effectively as part of a small team, as well as independently, you will be willing and able to travel within and outside the district, conducting site and other visits as required and attending court and evening meetings on a regular basis. You will be expected to be a vital and confident member of a wide range of project teams contributing not just your legal expertise but also a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
