Newham is the premier London Borough in the delivery of distinctive and high quality places. We are doing this at scale and pace and are looking to expand to keep up with the investment demand.

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly-motivated people with an appetite to get planning, urban design and heritage conservation experience in a dynamic Development Management team where they will learn quickly and effectively.

Planner (Urban Design and Conservation)
£24,462 - £36,771 pa.

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have put the Newham in the international spotlight and are driving change at an unprecedented pace and scale. With an abundance of land for development, world-class transport and digital infrastructure, and a young, energetic and increasingly skilled workforce, the Borough is ideally placed to accommodate much of London’s growth in the 21st century. Alongside this we aim to upgrade our existing neighbourhoods through high quality smaller scale development to improve the business and residential environment of Newham. As development and investment in the UK’s capital moves steadily eastwards, Newham is set to become a new heart for London. This is a rare opportunity to join our high performing Development Management team.

We will ensure that you gain valuable planning experience across the entire spectrum of development management, but specialising in urban design and conservation and assisting and leading on the delivery of all types of development. You will work in a multifunctional service, with the opportunity to assist with the operation of the design review panel and work closely with colleagues in planning enforcement, planning policy, planning appeals, and transport planning.

If you want to help shape this part of London – and improve and progress the borough for all its communities – come and join the team!

You will be educated to degree level with a keen interest in planning, architecture, urban design and/or heritage conservation. Applications are welcomed from candidates with all levels of planning, architecture, urban design or heritage conservation experience from recent graduates to more experienced professionals seeking a new challenge in a high performing Development Management Team.

You will play an integral role in driving forward new schemes within the Borough and effectively turn our Vision into reality as part of our Development management team.

We are looking for team players who are self motivated, enthusiastic and have the ability to manage a varied urban design and conservation caseload with a strong commercial focus.

Successful candidates will contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective Development Management service for the borough by providing high quality and accessible urban design and heritage advice, including engagement with developers and other key stakeholders in enabling the delivery of quality developments within a robust planning policy framework.
