Asset management Officer / Engineer

North Somerset Council is looking to appoint a newly qualified or experienced person to help develop and move forward Highway Asset Management.  


The role will be to manage the data quality of our Highway Asset inventory to allow quality data-based decisions taking account of risk. Making an annual return to finance teams on asset value and report on work carried out to the department of Transport.  There will be involvement in a range of projects undertaken within the team to improve processes to align with Highway Asset management best practice.   There will also be a role in production and updating of the council’s Asset Management plans and strategies to inform future policy.  There will be an occasional role in responding to public and internal enquiries regarding policy and scheme selection.  


The role is a key position that will have a unique opportunity to ensure quality data-based decisions can be made to influence and determine planned future highway maintenance across North Somerset in these financially challenging times.


The role will be supported by the existing team members to support or develop your skills in highway asset management and understand the council’s policy and strategy.


The post forms part of the Highway & Environmental Asset Team which is responsible for Structures, Highway Asset Management and Highway Material Testing.  


The successful candidate will be qualified to NVQ level 4 or higher in Geography; GIS; Civil Engineering or other relevant subject and preferably have experience in data quality management and analysis as well as a knowledge of asset management principles. You will have enthusiasm to make a difference and be flexible with the ability to engage with the public and employees at all levels.
