About the role

Do you relish a challenge? Do you have a proven track record of delivering complex transformation programmes in demanding environments? Are you tenacious, committed to the cause and able to inspire others? If so then we want to hear from you!

We are looking for exceptional, forward-thinking candidates to drive the delivery of a significant transformation programme across the council (and its partners), while reducing costs, increasing efficiency and ensuring our services meet the needs of residents and service users.

If this has piqued your interest, then our SeniorProgramme/Portfolio Manager roles could be for you.

At Surrey, our vision is to help create better lives, a better place and a county where no-one is left behind.

To deliver our vision we are committed to changing and radically improving the Council's culture, approach and performance, putting residents' current and future needs first.

You will manage a portfolio and be responsible for its successful delivery by coordinating a number of critical projects while equipping project managers to deliver to the best of their ability. We are therefore looking for people who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, can influence and motivate, have the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, have confidence to challenge the status quo, and can create joined up solutions.

These roles are as much about navigating and fostering relationships as they are about delivering a portfolio of work. We need people who think strategically, who can "join up the dots", challenge current thinking and develop creative solutions to difficult issues while looking ahead to our future ambitions and vision.

Marie Snelling, Director of Transformation says 'Having recently joined Surrey County Council, I am building a portfolio office of high calibre individuals who can operate as an engine room for change across the organisation. We have big ambitions and our improvement work is not just a project, programme or one-off initiative to drive savings – it is the right way of doing things to make a real difference to our residents. As such, I'm looking for passionate and talented people to join us to design and deliver a range of exciting and challenging portfolios of work. I need individuals who have collaboration at their heart, who can work with services and a wide range of disciplines across the council, who can lead and engage but also deliver results. So if you are looking for a Local Government role where you can help us deliver radical improvement over the next couple of years while setting the foundations to be 'audaciously ambitious' in the future, then we would love to hear from you'.
