Senior Planning Compliance Officer (Development Management)

The Borough of Broxbourne is in south east Hertfordshire bordering London and the M25, with a population of about 93,600. Stratford International station is 25 minutes away by train and there is good access to airports and the rest of the country. Broxbourne is a Green Belt borough containing much of the Lee Valley Regional Park and is home to the White Water Centre which hosted the canoeing events at the London 2012 Olympics. Broxbourne has ambitious plans to deliver high quality retail, residential and commercial developments through its emerging Local Plan, whilst seeking to conserve its towns, villages and beautiful countryside.

Senior Planning Compliance Officer (Development Management) – Ref (SPCO)

Salary range £28,609 - £29,456 p.a.

The Council is seeking an enforcer to join its Planning team. The successful candidate will be given responsibility as lead officer for identifying, investigating and remedying breaches of planning control across the Borough. In addition, they will have supervisory responsibility for the Planning Compliance Officer.

The role requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with members of the public and other professionals in an assertive and calm manner. The post is busy and commands a good organiser to manage cases and collate accurate evidence in accordance with legal protocols. It is essential that the successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a planning or other regulatory role, as the duties include presenting cases and giving evidence at planning appeals and in Court. The ability to read and measure technical drawings is also a requirement.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.
