Part- time (0.6) Specialist Teacher for Visual Impairment

Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with a sensory impairment? Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a peripatetic role to help schools and settings meet the needs of children with visual impairment?

An opportunity has arisen within Halton’s SEN Service to join as a Specialist Teacher for Visual Impairment. Halton’s SEN Service aims to provide high quality educational support for children and young people across Halton. The Specialist Teacher for Visual Impairment will be responsible for a caseload of pupils who have an identified visual impairment in both mainstream and specialist provisions.

We have two additional teacher of visual impairment who work on a part-time basis so there is opportunity for supervision and discussions with other teachers in the same role. In addition we have Teaching Assistant support to help deliver the caseload.

Halton’s sensory teachers have established excellent multi-agency links and effective relationships with parents which were praised in our 2017 Local Area SEND Inspection.

Your key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • To complete assessments for pupils with VI and use the NATSIP criteria to help identify appropriate levels of support.
  • To provide direct teaching and modelling for schools and settings to meet the needs of pupils with VI.
  • To support parents and provide advice and support around their child’s visual impairment.
  • To provide training and advice to schools and settings so that they feel empowered to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND.
